		<description>Surveys, studies, etc. are all well and good but might I humbly suggest in addition to this, if you want to know how to retain your &quot;core&quot; donors or better serve donors in general (and I do mean we are to SERVE our donors) people who work in philanthropy might want to seek out other charities to support/become donors themselves?

This may be part of tearing down the old guard as you mentioned but I cannot emphasize enough how crucial it is once and for all to get rid of the belief that there is anything separating you and your donors in terms of mission.  

Either people get that we&#039;re all in this together because we CHOOSE to be, or nonprofits will continue to bang their heads against a wall while donors go elsewhere to partner with NFP&#039;s for change.

The best way to know what someone wants is to walk a mile in their shoes.</description>
