Three cheers for Lisa Sargent ... and for Tom Belford for his decision to put up Lisa's post in honor of Abe Lincoln's bicentennial birthday! I'd like to think that her post also honors the real worth of what we all do for a living. Lisa speaks truth and wisdom! Her well-chosen words and well-written post illustrate something in which I've firmly believed throughout my 38 years in nonprofit advancement and something I've always "preached" to nonprofit governing boards, staffers and volunteers. Our words and the messages they constitute are the building blocks of the "soul" of a nonprofit organization. I'd like to have a dollar for all those who, over the years, have warned me that we "must be careful not to engage in hyperbole," and who, seeing that a powerful, moving and truthful message has helped to advance the organization's interests, are converted to solid believers in the power of the written and spoken word. Keep up the good work, Lisa! We all need to make the same effort!
